Mirror Chalkboard on the Wall

I know I keep talking about my great finds at that sale a couple of weeks ago, but I am still wading through the wonderful stash I accumulated from that one sale.  I found this incredible frame there, but a huge section of the top had become detached.  Being the great junker the seller was, she had the good sense to tape the broken piece to the mirror.

Large mirrors are not selling for us right now, but chalkboards are so my first thought was what a great chalkboard this would be.  My husband kept after me about what we were going to do with the mirror and after contemplation I decided to paint the back side of the mirror with the chalkboard paint.  That way, if anyone did want to convert this back to a mirror, they would have the option to do so.  That also meant I wouldn't have to throw the mirror away.  An old mirror with no frame is not any good to anyone.
Doesn't this remind you of the tale of Snow White?  It does me.  You can see from the before photo where my husband glued and patched.  The whole right side of the carving had broken off.  I think this is a beautiful vintage frame.  You certainly don't find them like this anymore.  The frame itself is a beautiful work of art.

Thanks for visiting.

Beautiful Antiqued Cabinet

A couple of weeks ago I shared with you some great architectural finds I found at a sale.  Well, I also purchased three pieces of furniture from the same sale including this gorgeous antiqued cabinet.  Isn't she a beauty?  I absolutely love this cabinet and it was ready to go and didn't need a thing done to it.

I asked the seller what kind of products she used on this cabinet to antique it and she told me she used a store bought antiquing kit.  You can believe I'll be on the hunt for something that can accomplish this kind of a finish.  It also has the perfect amount of chippiness too.
I took these photos with my cell phone so they are not the best quality photos, but you can still see how beautiful this piece is.  It was so nice not to have to slave over something to recreate it.

Thanks for stopping by and taking a peak.

Aqua Love

One of my favorite colors this year for home decor is aqua.  It goes with so many colors you wouldn't even consider such as red, pink and gold.  I found these frames at a flea market.  They were both painted gold.  The one with the triple panes was missing some of the molding pieces so rather than try to recreate the missing pieces, I removed what was remaining.  It left the frame a little rough and uneven in some places.

I painted the frames with an aqua paint I already had on hand and since both frames had some rough patches, I took my sander and gave them both a heavy sanding, thus exposing the gold and the wood beneath.
What was left behind was a perfect primitive appearance.  I love this triple frame.  It can even be used as a door crown to add a little interest to an otherwise plain area.  I left the wire behind the other frame.  I can just picture notes and photographs clothes pinned onto the wire thus creating the perfect message board.

Thanks for stopping by.  I have a lot of projects started but nothing is finished yet.  Hopefully I will make some progress this week and have more to share soon.

Valentine's Day Table

It's that time of year when we all see red and lots of it.  For this tablescape I took some ideas from Pinterest.  I combined three different red and white transferware china patterns.  I liked the mix and match idea.  I placed fresh raspberries and mint in the champagne flute.  It really was refreshing.  I didn't think the mint would mix with the champagne, but it really was very good not to mention very pretty.

I placed these red roses in my ironstone pitcher.
I mixed them with a few white stems to make it a little more interesting.
Then we prepared plain white cupcakes, removed the baking wrapper and squiggled a bird's nest design on top with pink frosting.  More raspberries and mint and a dollop of whipped cream.  Got this idea from Pinterest too.
This beautiful Staffordshire pitcher was a fabulous find at the flea market last week.  Isn't it wonderful?  It's in mint condition.
What would Valentine's Day be without chocolate dipped strawberries?  These were dipped in melted chocolate candies and mini chocolate chips, coconut and almonds.  This was another great idea from Pinterest.
Last but not least, my daughter made these beautiful heart shaped brownies using a special pan from Williams Sonoma.
Of course, when the real Valentine's Day arrives, I will try to eat my veggies before I dive into all the great sweet treats, but, after all, Valentine's Day is all about the goodies.  Right?  Hope you're all finding great ideas on Pinterest too.  Thanks for stopping by.

Umbrella Lights

I never got around to sharing more of my photos from the Craft and Hobby Show so today is a good day to share.  I'm still processing last week's treasures and haven't done any projects this entire week.

What first caught my attention here was this beautiful damask wallpaper and when I looked through my camera lens I noticed this cleverly re-worked chandelier.  Not sure how I missed it in the first place, but sometimes I need to walk right into something to see it!

This makes for wonderful show display or shop display to be sure.  I would love to see a whole window of these.
As for the next photo, I think it's an adorable use for old globes.  I have seen a ton of these on Pinterest, and I think they are great for a teen's room.  Not too cutesy but just the right amount of imagination.  Also great for a travel themed room.
Well, I did call this post Umbrella Lights which implies more than one so now I'll show you this adorable lamp I found a few weeks ago.  How clever is this?  It's made using a music stand and an old canvas umbrella.  You can tell by my walkway, it had just rained in the morning.  Perfect weather to show off my lamp.  Of course, it's available at Aubergine Emporium and is now dwelling in my space.
